Soil, Microbiome, and Food VI • Meet the Animals at 8 Hands Farm

  • 8 Hands Farm 4735 Cox Lane Cutchogue New York, 11935 (map)

Hear how two people with no previous farming experience were able to build a regenerative farm here on the North Fork. She will discuss the central role the animals play in enriching soil and how the farm manages this throughout the changing seasons.

Led by Carol Festa

Carol Festa is the founder and operator of 8 Hands Farm, a diversified and regenerative farming operation. Carol began her farming venture in 2011 with her husband and two children. The impetus for her venture was twofold: firstly, she wanted to be part of the grassroots change she felt was necessary to take the food system back to the community and away from industrial food operators; secondly, she sought to provide her children with a unique learning experience which would connect them to the earth and nature in a very real way. While both of Carol’s parents grew up on farms, she had no experience in farming prior to starting 8 Hands Farm, having held several positions in finance including equity research, bank examinations, and investment management sales. She is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of farmers.
